How to Pop a Prosecco Bottle Safely
How to Pop a Prosecco Bottle Safely
Chill the bottle well.
Prosecco should be thoroughly chilled before opening (about 3 hours in the refrigerator). A cold bottle has less pressure and is much easier to open safely.Remove the foil.
Peel away the foil from the top of the bottle to expose the wire cage.Keep your thumb on the cork.
Place one thumb firmly over the cork before loosening the wire cage. Never point the bottle at anyone.Loosen the wire cage.
Untwist the wire loop (usually six turns) while keeping your thumb on the cork. You can leave the cage on the cork for extra grip if you like.Hold the bottle at a 45-degree angle.
Point it away from people, pets, and anything breakable.Grip the cork and twist the bottle—not the cork.
Hold the cork steady with one hand while slowly twisting the base of the bottle with the other hand.Let the pressure do the work.
As the cork begins to ease out, apply gentle pressure to keep it from flying. Aim for a soft "sigh" rather than a loud pop.Pour carefully.
Tilt each glass slightly and pour slowly to preserve the bubbles, filling each glass about two-thirds full.
