Brown Sugar Turnip, Carrot Mashed

Ingredients:
Brown Sugar Turnip, Carrot Mash:
2 lbs carrots, peeled and chopped
1 lb turnip, peeled and chopped
4 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp light brown sugar
2 1/2 tsp salt, divided
1/4 tsp pepper
Directions:
Place the carrots and turnips in a large saucepan and cover with cold water, making sure the water sits about 1 inch above the vegetables. Add 2 teaspoons of salt and bring to a boil. Cook for 40–45 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
Drain well, then return the vegetables to the pot. Add the butter, brown sugar, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, and pepper. Mash everything together until smooth.
