Dumplings
Serves: Six | Prep: 10 min | Cook: 20 min
Ingredients:
Dumplings:
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
5 Tbsp butter, melted, divided
1 cup milk
Directions:
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in 3 Tablespoon melted butter, then gradually add the milk, mixing just until a soft, sticky dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and gently shape it into a log about 9 inches long. Cut the log into three equal pieces and shape each piece into an oblong, football-like shape.
Bring a pot of water to a boil and carefully place the dumplings into the boiling water. Cook for 20–30 minutes, flipping them halfway through so they cook evenly on all sides. Once cooked, transfer the dumplings to a colander and let them drain well and cool slightly. Slice the dumplings and place them into a casserole dish, then drizzle with about 1–2 tablespoons of melted butter before serving.
Delicious with Sauerbraten.
Tip:
Leftover dumplings are fantastic the next day. Slice them and pan-fry in a little butter until golden—especially good served with breakfast.
